Attempting Relaxation; or, Our Family Vacation to Maui

Back to Maui! We had a silly 5-night promo from the Westin Kā’anapali Ocean Resort Villas and it was great! Tycho had been looking forward to the pirate ship waterslide area for… ever? It didn’t disappoint, but the rocky beach pool next door at the Westin Nanea may have been the winner for both kids.

Highlights:

• Nova just saying “pool, pool” over and over again on our drive to the hotel, particularly whenever we added a stop
• Tycho getting up way too early the first day and Kristan finally salvaging the situation by getting him to go for a run with her
• Tycho proceeding to insist on going running EVERY DAY at 5am
• Nova running manically down the same boardwalk just like Tycho did when we were last there in August 2019
• Running into friends we haven’t seen in forever at Duke’s and hanging out later
• That time they messed up our shave ice order and we ended up with three woooooooo
• Nova saying “hot pool!” whenever she wanted to go in the hot tub
• Running into ANOTHER set of friends we haven’t seen in forever while on a hike that was only a quarter mile long, what are the odds, and then hanging out later at Cafe O’Lei at the Maui Tropical Plantation (still recommended!)
• Banana bread and AeroPress coffee every morning, an absurd amount of Maui Gold pineapples, poke from Times, DIY pancakes at Slappy Cakes, grilling our own mahi at the Westin grills. “Mahi is my favorite food ever!” says Tycho.
