It all started when Kristan found a one night repositioning cruise from Vancouver to Seattle a few months ago. It kept popping up in her head, especially after she realized it would give Max platinum status on Princess. One thing led to another (mostly the arrival of a glut of Hyatt points and the Southwest companion pass) and we decided it would be hilarious to go to Vancouver and Seattle for a weekend.

Our 24 hours in Vancouver consisted of lots of walking, craft beer, coffee, and good food. Surprise! Some highlights include Dead Frog’s Tropic Vice mango-passion wheat beer, yakisoba and terimayo veggie dogs at Japadog, and Indian food at Vij’s (when both Carly and Kristan said “I know a good Indian place in Vancouver!” last summer on Whidbey Island, we knew it was inevitable that we would go). Favorite memento? A tiki mug from The Shameful Tiki Room featuring a beaver. Because Canada.

Having been on the Ruby Princess twice before, we already knew how to maximize our 18 hours on board – bubbly and a cheese plate from the International Cafe on our balcony, several loops on the Promenade deck around sunset with a Seawitch Blonde Ale from the Wheelhouse Bar (the only place to get a craft beer on board), an appetizer portion of the fettuccine Alfredo (see promenade loops) to make up for the inevitable disappointment of our chosen mains… We did try something new by going to the evening entertainment, but it wasn’t our cup of tea and we went to the lounge for an actual cup of tea instead, which we enjoyed much more!

We finished off this mini-trip with a few hours hanging out in Seattle with our friends Max and Moorea. Can’t get much better than this!

    1. It was really good! Very different than what we’re used to elsewhere, but we really enjoyed the dishes, drinks, and atmosphere. Many more options for meat-eaters.
