We didn’t expect to chalk up another travel first for Tycho this summer, but thanks to someone’s last minute cancellation, we recently took Tycho to Portola Redwoods State Park for his very first camping trip! We set up the tent in our living room the day before to give Tycho a little intro to the idea – he was thrilled to hang out and read books with us, and even practiced “napping”!

Our site was huge, so we had plenty of space to relax sans-mask. Tycho had so much fun just puttering around, looking at leaves, climbing logs, and collecting pinecones. He understood that he needed to avoid the fire pit right away, thankfully, and generally didn’t get into too much trouble. We cooked camp-food, went on a couple of hikes with the banana slugs, and hung out without any cell service for a couple of days. (Bonus: we escaped the mayhem of Bernal’s amateur fireworks!) We didn’t bring enough beer and froze a little the first night because of toddler sleep sprawl, but we can’t wait to do it again!

  1. I’ve been thinking back on your cute camping photos several times.

Normally, I claim that most photos are seen three times: first, sole, and last time. However, the ‘Camp Reading’ photo comes back again and again due to it’s calm and concentration! You are good photographers (and only show the good ones:-).
