What a busy few weeks! We had lots of firsts… first day of school, first day of soccer and swimming, first time turning 3!, first time getting COVID (“Wooo.”), Daddy’s first work trip away.

Kristan and Nova tested positive right after we got home from Alaska and with the first day of school coming up fast, they quarantined downstairs so that Tycho wouldn’t end up missing the first few days of first grade. He’s our only No-vid at this point! Max and Tycho had various adventures while Nova lived her best life hanging with Mama 24/7 and not even having to put on clothes. Thank goodness for mama-preschool and that water table we rescued from our neighbors. Kristan had an awkward but certainly memorable birthday!

Tycho and Nova both had their first days of school – Tycho’s in first grade now and Nova started her new forest school in the Presidio (on her birthday!) She loved it immediately! We had a really lovely party at home (conveniently Kristan had nearly two weeks of nothing to do but garden right before. Ha. ha. ha.) and it was so nice to see Nova running around with all her friends big and small. She’s THREE! We can’t believe it. She is definitely a person now.

Nova started swimming and is so enthused about it! It seems to help that her teacher is also Tycho’s teacher — they both get a kick out of having the same teacher. Max had a work trip to Portland and wow did it hit the kids hard! Tycho in particular was very morose. We ended up skipping Nova’s soccer and just cuddling on the couch watching a movie one of the afternoons he was gone because they needed the cozy time.

We wrapped up September with our annual block party – 12 hours of nonstop excitement! Lawn games, lunch from the grill, bounce house, water balloons, face paint, arts and crafts, visit from the fire truck, pizza, a movie… You name it, we did it! All the neighbors pitch in to plan beforehand and make things happen day off. This year was especially wonderful because most of the 40+ kids in our little corner of SF were old enough that we could all keep an eye on them collectively. Huzzah!

    1. San Francisco weather has its own weird pattern! September and October are usually our warmest, “summer” months, then we have one quick month of “fall” in November before rain in December-March. April and May anything can happen, and June-August are foggy. Makes it hard for visitors to pack because it’s not usually what they expect!

  1. Happy B-Day to the Little Princess & Tycho is turning into a little man.
The good news is now we three have a strong immunity to Covid.
