I know, I know, we keep saying another big month, but there’s been a lot of them in a row! April (spring break and the eclipse), May (the scramble to find Nova a new school, Vegas, life) and now June: Tycho’s birthday, the end of kindergarten, Max gets Covid for the first time and Kristan takes the kids solo camping, Pride, and the Lockbirds visit. We are living our happy and full lives?!
Tycho has been wishing to learn how to roller skate for literally a year now, but it turns out when you also bike and run a lot, it’s hard to prioritize a new method of transportation. So when we found out one of the regulars at Skatin’ Place offers kids skating lessons, we said yes! And of course it was lovely because what’s better than a coffee and a donut hanging out on the grass on JFK while messing around on skates? We love Golden Gate Park and our city.
Tycho had a great birthday – a treasure hunt around the house (this kid loves maps), a 5K with Mama (the first of three this month), a brief appearance at our neighbor’s birthday party, cargo biking all the supplies over to the park, so many polaroids, just the best. We probably even had sushi for dinner, but I can’t really remember. And then came the end of kindergarten. Kristan got to go to one final walk in the Presidio with him – next year they go too, but it’s different, and I kinda cried a bit. According to Tycho, he wasn’t phased by the end of kindergarten but he was also a little high-strung that week too. He’s looking forward to first grade and doing some workbooks.
For Father’s Day Max got the most exciting present… Covid. This was the first time any of us have ever tested positive, so we were a little panicked. Also, things we don’t want to do the first two weeks of summer break: all be stuck at home together. So Max isolated, and Kristan parented. For 12 days. Wowza. Let’s all give her a pat on the back for taking the kids camping at Kirby Cove all by herself, despite it being a walk-in site of a quarter mile. Go Kristan!
Nova lived the dream this month and got to go to school with Tycho, since he joined her in GGP for two weeks. It’s a little funny, she’s been looking forward to him coming for so long, but also was less enthused about going herself because she’s excited for her new school. Not sure why it made such a big impression on her, but it’s nice.
Max finally emerged in time for Pride. Tycho and Kristan did the Pride Run again of course (Tycho’s second fastest 5K ever!) and we all marched in the Parade with Tycho’s school, which was super special and somehow less overwhelming than just watching the parade. Nova walked 1.7 miles, nearly the entire length, possibly because Mama said “make sure the cable car behind us doesn’t run you over” and every time she looked back and saw it, she sprinted away….
Busy hands are happy hands.
Where did you get those striped tights, I need one for Dennis’s wardrobe…
I’ll let him know to keep an eye for them…
I like the text in the writing assignment! Also, the colors on your photos are so bright!
